WristVoice AI - User Guide
A world of answers.
Right on your wrist.
Speak naturally. Read clearly. Keep the conversation on your wrist.
A practical guide to recording a question, following up, choosing your privacy settings and staying connected.
Updated 4 November 2026 · Screen images captured in the Garmin simulator using the app’s interface and illustrative content. Appearance and controls may vary by watch.
01 / Start here
Speak a short question to your Garmin watch and read a clear answer on your wrist. WristVoice AI handles recording, transcription and the AI response in one flow.
Before your first question
- Check the app’s Connect IQ listing for compatibility with your exact watch. A microphone alone does not establish compatibility.
- Install WristVoice AI through Connect IQ and complete the access instructions shown by the app.
- For phone connectivity, keep your watch paired, your phone online and Garmin Connect available.
- Choose your conversation language in Settings → Language. Choose whether to share location and whether to keep conversation context.
- Wait for the startup checks, then look for Ready when you are.
Your subscription is managed through WearCheckout, with payments handled through Polar. You do not need your own OpenAI API key or a ChatGPT subscription.

02 / Ask a question
- Tap the microphone. Only the microphone control starts recording; tapping elsewhere on the home screen does not.
- Wait for recording to start, then speak. Ask one clear question in your selected conversation language.
- Tap Stop when finished. The green ring counts down the remaining recording time. Recording also stops automatically at approximately ten seconds.
- Wait for the answer. The app sends the recording, recognises your words and asks the AI automatically. There is no transcript approval step.
Try: “Which is the largest country in the world by land area?” Or: “Translate ‘Where is the station?’ into Spanish.” The surrounding reply follows your selected language; an explicitly requested translation can contain the target language.
Empty recordings are filtered where possible. “No speech detected” means you should record again, preferably somewhere quieter.

03 / Read and use the answer
The home screen presents a short response. Tap the response text to open the larger-text reader. Scroll to see more; the compact Back control in the top-right returns to the main screen.
When context is enabled, Review conversation opens retained exchanges. These are a limited recent history, not a permanent archive.
AI can make mistakes. Verify important facts. This version displays text answers; it does not speak them aloud. It does not provide a live weather, restaurant-search or navigation service, and it cannot send email or change your calendar.

04 / Fresh questions or a continuing topic?
| Mode | What happens | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Context off | Each question stands alone. The current question and answer are displayed, but are not kept as conversation history after the app closes. | Unrelated questions; minimum local history. |
| Context on · Local | The watch keeps a bounded conversation and sends the retained context with subsequent questions. The local conversation window is up to ten question-and-answer exchanges, also subject to a size limit. | Short follow-ups without using an OpenAI Conversations record. |
| Context on · Server | The service associates your watch with an OpenAI conversation. The watch keeps the reference and a bounded reader history. The provider holds conversation content. | Continuing a topic across app openings, while accepting provider-side retention. |
For example, ask “What is the capital of France?” followed by “What language do people there speak?” With context off, repeat the country in the second question.
Saved context can survive closing the app and restarting the watch. Ten minutes of waiting does not itself clear it. Context is bounded, not unlimited memory: start a fresh conversation after ten questions, and restate important details if a topic is no longer remembered.
Use Settings → Conversation context and Context mode, or the context controls on the Usage page. Turning context off clears retained local conversation data. The Local/Server control is not applicable while context is off.

05 / Page-by-page reference
| Screen | Purpose | Where to go next |
|---|---|---|
| Home | AI appearance, microphone, status and short answer. | Tap microphone to record; tap an answer to read it. |
| Recording | Stop control and remaining time. | Stop sends the recording; Back/Cancel abandons. |
| Working | Progress while sending, transcribing or preparing an answer. | Allow the request to finish; avoid repeated submissions. |
| Reader | Larger answer text and retained exchanges. | Scroll; use Back at the top-right. |
| Actions | Shortcuts for conversation, settings and usage. | Select a shortcut or return to Home. |
| Settings | Language, context, optional sharing, appearance and connection preferences. | Select the desired item; return with Back. |
| Usage | Plan usage and context controls. | Read the allowance; tap applicable context controls. |
| Recovery | What failed and the next available action. | Restore connection, then use Retry when offered. |

06 / Touch, buttons and leaving a screen
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Start / stop recording | Tap the circular microphone/Stop control. The watch’s Select/START action also activates the primary control. |
| Open the reader | Tap the answer text. |
| Open shortcuts | Swipe left from the idle main screen, or use the menu action. Swipe right or Back returns. |
| Scroll | Use a vertical swipe or the watch’s Up/Down actions on a scrollable view. |
| Choose a menu item | Tap it, or move the focus with Up/Down and use Select. |
| Return / cancel | Use the on-screen Back control or the watch’s Back action. During an active request, this can cancel the operation; from the idle home screen it can leave the app. |
Garmin button names and long-press assignments vary by model. Use your watch’s manual for its Select, Back and Menu controls. Navigation shortcuts may be unavailable while recording or processing.
07 / What the indicators mean
| Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Microphone in a circle | Ready to record. Tap this control to begin. |
| Green countdown ring and Stop | Recording is active; the ring shows the time remaining. |
| Animated working indicator | A request or readiness check is in progress. |
| Satellite at the left edge | Location sharing/acquisition status. Blinking indicates acquisition; it does not prove a usable fix exists. |
| LTE at the right edge | LTE or fallback is enabled. It is not proof that this request used LTE. |
| Back arrow in the reader | Return to the main page. |
| Context On/Off and Local/Server | Conversation preferences on the Usage page. They also act as controls when available. |

09 / Make it your own
| Setting | Choices and effect |
|---|---|
| Conversation context | Enabled or disabled. When enabled, select Local or Server. |
| Language | Interface language changes menus. Conversation language is sent explicitly for speech recognition and answers. Accent, GPS and earlier conversation must not silently switch it. |
| Optional context | Choose whether to share date/time, units/time format, and GPS/altitude. |
| Approximate location | Available only with GPS sharing enabled. Allows an available, recent lower-accuracy location; it does not create a location when none is available. |
| GPS and altitude | Valid shared coordinates help answer location questions. Altitude is included only when valid; it is never invented from an unavailable reading. |
| Connection | LTE fallback On/Off and Wi-Fi On/Off. Wi-Fi is experimental. |
| AI appearance | Male, Female or Cat. This changes the picture, not the AI capability or plan. |
| Watch ID / About | Information for identification and support, not a way to change your allowance. |
Choose settings on the watch and return with Back. Read-only Connect IQ fields are information rather than editable controls. Changing the conversation language can reset the current context.
Location without holding up every question
The watch can try to acquire a fix while you use the app. It sends valid available shared values with your question. If the AI needs location and none is available, the app can show that it is collecting location information, then make one automatic follow-up with the same question after acquisition. You can cancel the wait.
If sharing is disabled, the app tells you that you do not share location information. For a better fix, move outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Approximate location is optional and may be less precise; it is not a substitute for a reliable navigation fix.

10 / Stay connected
| Route | What you need | What the setting means |
|---|---|---|
| Phone | Paired watch, phone internet and Garmin Connect available. | Normal phone-assisted connection; Bluetooth alone is not internet. |
| LTE | A compatible LTE watch, suitable active service and coverage. | Enable LTE fallback when you want the app to use the supported route if needed. Availability is device/service dependent. |
| Wi-Fi · experimental | A saved network and a supported watch connection path. | Wi-Fi availability does not guarantee the complete voice request will succeed. Keep another route available. |
Use Connection → Check connection after restoring a route. A successful check confirms reachability at that moment, not that the next upload will necessarily finish. No offline AI-answer mode is provided.
If the app says your question is kept, restore the connection and use Retry. Keep the app open: recordings retained for recovery are temporary. Automatic retries are bounded. A retry is not guaranteed to be free if processing already reached the AI service.

11 / Plans, allowance and renewal
WearCheckout manages access and subscription validation; Polar handles payment. Check the offered plan at checkout for prices, allowance, billing interval and cancellation terms. Basic and Plus have different allowance rules; a fair-use plan is not unlimited.
The service measures AI usage rather than simply counting every question as identical. Recording length, response length and retained context can change the amount used. Any estimated number of questions is guidance, not a guarantee.
- Above 75% usage, the app can warn Basic users that the limit is approaching and remind Plus users of fair usage.
- The warning does not block access. The applicable allowance or fair-use limit does.
- A short-term rate limit is separate from the allowance for the billing period. When rate-limited, wait before sending again.
- Monthly payment and yearly payment do not necessarily mean different allowance windows. Follow the verified reset information and plan terms; do not assume a yearly subscription makes a full year’s allowance available at once.
- Reopening, reinstalling or resetting conversation does not renew an allowance.
Use the subscription management link provided with your purchase to manage renewal or cancellation. Cancelling future renewal is different from deleting conversation data. A trial is available only when explicitly offered with its own terms.
12 / Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| No speech detected / nothing was sent | Record one clear sentence in a quiet place. Wait for the recording indication before speaking. |
| Incorrect words | Check Settings → Language → Conversation language. Review Diagnostics → Transcript before trying again. |
| Question is kept / connection interrupted | Restore phone internet and Garmin Connect, or the selected supported route. Use Retry instead of immediately recording the same question again. |
| Long wait | Follow the progress message. Avoid repeatedly submitting. Use Cancel if you want to abandon the operation; already completed processing cannot be undone. |
| No location / collecting location | Check GPS sharing and move outdoors. Approximate location requires GPS sharing. Cancel the acquisition wait if the answer can wait. |
| No altitude | A usable location does not always include valid altitude. Try another fix; the app should not substitute an invented altitude. |
| Wrong topic / old detail forgotten | Check context mode, then reset for a new topic or restate the important details. Context has a finite window. |
| AI access limited | Read Usage and the exact message. An allowance limit, short-term rate limit and subscription/access problem need different remedies. |
| Reader seems cut off | Tap the main response to open the reader and scroll. The AI response itself may still be concise. |
| Persistent failure | Record the installed version, watch model, connection route, approximate time and last connection details. Avoid posting private conversation text or credentials. |
13 / Privacy, help and support
On the watch: your settings, access reference and bounded history are kept as needed. Context off removes retained local conversation history; Reset clears it and starts a fresh association. Temporary recordings may be held for an active request or recovery.
Our AWS service: the relay processes audio, transcripts and answers in memory. It does not deliberately save this content in its database, files or application logs. It stores access, subscription, usage and request metadata, including a pseudonymous watch identifier and conversation associations. A hashed identifier is not anonymous, and can be associated with a subscription.
OpenAI API: OpenAI processes speech and text. Provider retention rules still apply. Server context stores conversation content at OpenAI. Resetting the watch conversation does not delete that provider history; it delinks the watch from the old conversation.
WearCheckout and Polar: these services handle subscription validation and payment information according to their policies. You control optional location sharing and conversation mode. Necessary access and usage accounting cannot be switched off while using the service.
Connections are encrypted in transit, but this is not end-to-end encryption that prevents our relay or OpenAI from reading content during processing. See the separate privacy policy for retention, rights and provider details.
